8vo. pp [xiv], 184, 189-260, 259-346. Pagination irregular but all pages present. Lacks portrait frontispiece. Two folding plates present (of three). Contemporary panelled calf, rather marked. Damp splashes to the foot of several pages, otherwise bright. Contemporary ownership marks as follows: John George 1783 November to endpaper recto; George Millers His Book Jn 1783; Nov 10th George Mills His Book 1781 to flyleaf recto; Thos Selman His Book Jan 1783 , and a curious rhyme Thou I love the souls that are of this name and all these souls are chicks of his name, Witness my hand George Wiseman 1784. Upside down to the rear is The Love is Read the Violites Bleu Carmacions sweet love and so are You George Mills. William Leybourn was an important surveyor, and mathematician. In the preface to the reader, he explains that he has carefully revised and checked this edition to remove the many mistakes that had come to affect the text. Clearly a used example passing through several youthful hands at the end of the eighteenth century. Please note faults, but an uncommon book in any conditions. ESTC R42120. £300.
