Spock’s Baby and Child Care was first printed in the USA in 1946. It went on to become one of the best-selling books of the 20th century and revolutionised the upbringing of children with a more child centric ethos and its advice to parents that; “You know more than you think you do”. This scarce 1st UK edition in its even scarcer dust jacket has a number of differences from the US edition with changes in language “nappie” for “daiper” etc. together with an editor’s note at the front referring to medical entitlements under the relatively new National Health Service and the extra rations available to pregnant women and new mothers (although rationing officially ended in July 1954). In all, a lovely 1st UK Edition of this groundbreaking book.
