Dealer Notes
These two items, dating from c.1842, both relate to British rule in India.
The first is a large document, a firman that is written in an Indian or South Asian language. A firman ( Persian: فرمان farmân), or ferman (Turkish), at the constitutional level, was a royal mandate or decree issued by a sovereign in an Islamic state. During various periods they were collected and applied as traditional bodies of law. The word firman comes from Persian فرمان meaning "decree" or "order".
The second item appears to be a MS Autograph of William Vesey-FitzGerald, 2nd Baron FitzGerald and Vesey (1783 – 1843), an Irish statesman who was President of the Board of Control 1841-43.
