The books cover the period from Caesar's invasions of Britain (55 BC) to the end of the Second Boer War (1902). All four volumes are First Editions, First Impressions with dust jackets protected in a clear, removable covers. Volume I - The Birth of Britain - 1956 There is a neat owners name and date to the front end paper. In near fine condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. There is minimal shelf wear to the bottom edge of the spine. The end papers and pages are free from marks and tears. There is a slight amount of running to the front end paper. The top edge retains some of its original red tint. The unclipped dust jacket is in very good condition to the corners of the front cover, two smalls tears and nibbling to the top edge of the spine, loss to the bottom edge of the spine and two small indentations to the back cover. Volume II - The New World - 1956 There is a neat owners plate with name and date to the rear of the front board. In very good condition the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. There are crease marks to all the corners, an indentation to the edge of the front board and slight shelf wear to the top and bottom edges of the spine. The end papers and pages are free from marks and tears. There is a slight amount of rubbing to the front end paper. The top edge retains its original red tint. The unclipped dust jacket is in good condition with loss to the top corner of the front cover, a crease mark to the top edge of the front cover, foxing to the front cover, slight nibbling to the top edge of the front cover, crease marks to the top and bottom edges of the spine, two marks to the spine, three small tears to to the top edge of the back cover and foxing to the back cover. Volume III - The Age of Revolution - 1957 There is a neat owners plate with name and date to the front end paper. In fine condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. There is minimal shelf wear to the bottom edge of the spine. The end papers and pages are free from tears. There is a small mark to the fore edge. The top edge retains its original red tint. The clipped dust jacket is in very good condition with marks to the front cover, crease marks to the top edge of the spine, nibbling to the top edge of the back cover and marks to the back cover. Volume IV - The Great Democracies - 1958 There is a neat owners plate with name and date to the front end paper. In fine condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. There is minimal shelf wear to the top and bottom edges of the spine. The end papers and pages are free from tears. There is a mark to the fore edge. The top edge retains its original red tint. The unclipped dust jacket is in good condition with loss to the top corner of the front cover, a small tear to the top edge of the front cover, marks to the front cover, nibbling to the top and bottom edges of the spine , a darkened spine, a small tear to the top edge of the back cover and marks to the back cover. Will be dispatched carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box.
